Pembroke Pointe Celebrates Phase II

Pembroke, N.C.July 22, 2009 – In response to increased enrollment at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and higher demand for off-campus housing options, Pembroke Pointe Apartments has completed Phase II. A Grand Opening and Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at 5:00 P.M.

Pembroke Pointe Phase II has a total of 116 apartments in 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom floor plans. Pembroke Pointe Apartments, managed by Kenney Realty Services (a division of Kenney Companies), will now be able to house as many as 426 students and faculty from UNC-Pembroke.

The Grand Opening Ceremony will be held in Phase II, at the entrance to Building 115, and it will be attended by Dr. Charles Jenkins, Interim Chancellor of UNC-Pembroke; Mayor Milton Hunt of Pembroke, N.C.; McDuffie Cummings, Town Manager of Pembroke, N.C.; members of the Pembroke Town Council; and executives of Kenney Realty Services. Other administrators from UNC-Pembroke and members of the Pembroke Area Chamber of Commerce will be in attendance.

Brandon Hammond, the Community Manager of Pembroke Pointe, said that they will continue the tradition of being in front of the demand for off-campus housing.  “We were one of the first private student-housing communities in Pembroke,” he said, “now we are the first community to offer 1-bedroom apartments, and we are the first community to provide housing for university faculty and staff, as well.”

Mr. Steve Kenney, President and CEO of Kenney Companies will present a donation of $2,500 to the UNC-Pembroke Support our Students Campaign at the ceremony.

“We are pleased to have a close working collaboration between Pembroke Pointe/Kenney properties and the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. This relationship has benefitted UNCP students as well as the Pembroke community through their sponsorships and support,” said UNC-Pembroke’s Director of Student Development, Dr. Tom Corti.

The completion of Phase II is the culmination of a year of many improvements for Pembroke Pointe.  "We have made several upgrades to our clubhouse and have installed controlled-access gates for our parking area.  We constantly look at ways to improve the resident experience at Pembroke Pointe," Hammond said.
